I know, I know, it’s been a long time. As you may have noticed, I am not “blogger extraordinaire”. I would not even consider my self as “averagaire”! No need to write me and tell me that I am lazy. That’s not nice 🙁
While I have not been that great with keeping up with cool and interesting things on here, I have been busy in the soap kitchen.
“What the heck have you been doing all this time??”
Well let me tell you!
One of my greatest peeves with my business is packaging. If I could just make great stuff and hand it to a little elf to pretty it up in beautiful packages and send them away, my life would be beyond perfect! I find it monotonous and my head explodes every time my computer or printer acts up while I am creating labels. So, I have been researching and studying different options to have great new packaging that my customers would love, that is not wasteful – something reusable or recyclable, and does not take me more time to put together than it does to make the product. Of course, it has to fit my budget so I do not lose money or have to pass the cost on to my customer.
A wonderful friend created an awesome logo for me that I do not want to change. I did not need re-branding, just a little “restructuring”. It took several months, but I found the combo that works!
During the month, you will see changes in packaging that reflect the vision I stated earlier – mostly focusing on less waste, more function, and better visual appeal at a cost that makes all of us happy.
The first of the changes are the scrub packaging. Gone are the plain plastic jars that you just toss out when done. They have been replaced with PET plastic bail jars that are reusable and look darn good as well! It is our hope that our customers will appreciate this small effort to help keep beauty in their lives without creating unsightly waste. Labeling changed so that we are not using as much ink (toner is very expensive!), more durable, and purchased in bulk to save cost. It remains simple and easy to read without strange or funky fonts and is marked with our elegant logo for a small splash of color.
Jars are cute, but what else?
Next will be our soaps. We are working on the final touches for labels on our new soap boxes. Again, we do not need re-branding, just a way to label without creating more time or money. These new boxes are sustainable and recyclable. We just love the plain brown textured box with the peek a boo window and we are trialing recycled labels and plant based ink. We had so many cute ideas to dress them up, but then that takes away from the idea of keeping things simple, affordable, and not wasteful. So as it is, they continue to be naked while some things are finalized. I stare at the pile of boxes and hope a spark of creativity slaps me in the face; it has not happened as of yet. *sigh*
But here is a sneak peek!
So there you have it. A couple of small changes that we hope will make a big impact in our lives as well as the customer’s in an effort to help reduce the amount of waste generated by our wanting to have certain luxuries in our lives. If we all did just a little bit, imagine the changes we could make! 🙂
Be good to each other, and as always, stay blessed!
